Población: Cerca de 24.000 personas.

Lugar: Concentrado en la provincia de Gia Lai y en ciertos lugares de la provincia central de Kon Tum y de la provincia norteña de Dac Lac.

Costumbres y hábitos: Los Gia Rai creen en la existencia de Giang (Genios) y ellos llevan a cabo muchos rituales conectados con sus genios. Ellos viven en las aldeas separadas llamadas ploi o “bon”. Las casas se construyen en pivotes elevados para evitar la humedad del suelo. En la aldea principal, los ancianos tienen gran prestigio en la sociedad de Gia Rai y desempeñan un papel principal en el funcionamiento de actividades colectivas. Cada aldea tiene una casa comunal, han adoptado un sistema matriarcal. La mujer es libre de elegir a sus amantes y decidir con quién se casa. El marido vive con la familia de su esposa y no tiene ningún derecho a la herencia. La hija, después de la unión, vive una larga vida con sus padres, hereda de ellos. Los niños toman el nombre de familia de la madre.

Cultura: La lengua de Gia Rai pertenece al grupo de Malayo-Polinesio. Las epopeyas largas y los viejos cuentos tales como "Dam Di Di San" “Dam Di” ( Ir de montería) y "Xinh Nha" son muy populares en la sociedad de Gia Rai. Los instrumentos musicales incluyen los gongos, T'rung, A -Nung, y Krong-Ponen.

Trajes: La ropa de Gia Rai se asemeja a la ropa de Tay Nguyen.

Economía: Los Gia Rai viven de la agricultura, practican la roza y queman los cultivos y campos. El arroz es su base alimenticia. También crían elefantes. Los hombres son muy expertos en la cestería, y las mujeres en tejer los paños. La caza, la reunión, y la pesca son otras ocupaciones principales.
